Within days of our both being retired we knew our house no longer worked for us. We needed a second study which meant converting our dressing room. That meant building a new walk-in wardrobe and we had long wanted an en-suite which could be attached to it. We also needed to update our freezing cold and unwelcoming downstairs cloakroom. In doing all this we wanted something special, distinctive and luxurious.

With our architect we came up with a black ‘pod’ over our garage contrasting strongly with our 1938 house. It was to be timber framed, highly insulated, flat roofed, lit by two skylights and a black framed ribbon window. Inside the shower and wardrobe were to be separated by a full height obscured glass door and access from the bedroom through a sliding shoji screen. Outside the window the remaining part of the garage roof was to be fashionably ‘green’ being covered in sedum.

The cloakroom was to be lined with insulation and kept warm by electric underfloor heating. Both it and the shower room were to be fully tiled and fitted out with designer sanitary ware.

The project went out to competitive tender which JMB won on both price and completion date. You hear so many stories about builders but the team turned up on the agreed day at the agreed time, something they continued to do. And what a nice group of guys – friendly, helpful, conscientious, and professional.

In a one-off job you expect not everything will go according to plan A whether necessary design changes or  sub-contractors not working to JMB’s (not our) exacting standards and it is the way these things are dealt with that demonstrate true professionalism. Jason and his men were putting things right before we ever knew they were wrong. They included work we never expected or knew was necessary. They found ways to correct things that were in the drawings but which when built didn’t look quite right. They sourced non-specified items brilliantly to match the requirements of the design and helped us through the surprisingly large number of decisions we had to make in order to produce the best possible result.

In the end they finished on time and so close to budget it isn’t worth mentioning. The quality of the work is brilliant and attracts lots of comments from visitors. It is a joy to use the five star luxury hotel room that is now our bedroom suite not to mention the new study and a cloakroom that is now actually useable. It is also rather fun to watch the heads of passers-by turn to admire (we believe ) the black pod.

We are really pleased with the extension and alterations to our home built by JMB Property Ltd.  Living through a building project is never easy, but Jason and his team certainly made the process as hassle-free as could be hoped. We have been very pleased with JMB Property Ltd from start to finish with our large domestic project. The house was pretty much gutted, a rear extension put on and the gardens landscaped. Jason, who managed the whole project, has been extremely professional yet very personable. As a busy working couple, we couldn’t have taken on the project if it wasn’t for the confidence Jason gave us. He gave us regular updates to fit in with our busy schedule which gave us peace of mind along the way. His lads are punctual, hardworking, considerate and courteous. Before appointing JMB we undertook all the normal background checks including a lengthy chat with the local Building Control Officer on who they rated. Jason also met with us several times to go through the architects plans and specification and showed my wife around a host of other projects he’d recently completed in the area. Everything indicated that JMB were the right choice for the house refurbishment and extension we wanted. We were not disappointed and indeed with hindsight we could not imagine a better choice. The work was completed ahead of time, to an excellent quality and exactly on price (even though we changed the specification slightly on several occasions as it progressed!); everything the Building Control Officer had mentioned of JMB in her experience.

Importantly, we found communication with Jason throughout the 14 week project to be excellent; phone calls always answered or returned within the hour and regular review meetings over a coffee whenever we requested them or he suggested one. Strong coordination and at least twice daily site attendance by Jason meant both us and his team were always abreast of the works ongoing at every stage, which avoided any confusion or issues arising on what was wanted.

We were delighted with our choice of JMB; it’s not something you commit to lightly or often and so making the right choice and having confidence in your chosen builder was hugely important and as much a relief as anything else. As a consequence when Nicky approached us to ask if we would consider drafting a testimonial we were more than happy to do the above for them. A good quality, friendly building firm like this deserves its success.

The whole team were courteous, professional and considerate throughout. From our very first meeting with Jason he made us feel very much at ease and as the project started the level of communication continued. His regular site visits meant he was always aware of what stage the project was at so this could be shared at our update meetings.

Like every project, decisions were being made along the way and Jason was always on hand to give his advice and supportive if things got tweaked along the way. Needless to say the project was delivered on time to very high standards and we would highly recommend JMB to anyone.
